The Scottish Government is putting a Bill through Parliament to set up a National Care Service (NCS), the bill leaves profiteering at the heart of care, and will outsource a huge range of functions – all of social work and social care – out of councils. Threatening the employment and pensions of tens of thousands of workers.
If the Bill goes ahead as planned, councils will see one third of their budget transferred to Care Boards. All of social work and social care will be either outsourced or only provided by councils if they can win contracts from the NCS. This threatens not just those who will transfer out – but also many other council workers. Councils will need fewer staff across the board - in finance, IT, HR, buildings and maintenance, transport, and other areas.
Decision making will be hoovered out of communities and into central government. Please email your MSP outlining these concerns and ask the Scottish Government to scrap this Bill and consult on plans for a real National Care Service we can sign up to.
