SUPPORT OUR CAMPAIGN FOR MORE COLLEGE AND SCHOOL FUNDING

UNISON is campaigning for more funding for colleges and schools from the Government. Under-investment in education is having a direct impact on children, learners and support staff, many of whom are underpaid and have excessive workloads.

Colleges

  • There has been a 14% cut in funding for 16-18 year olds since 2010, and a 49% cut to adult education funding.
  • Colleges face additional cost pressures – they have to pay VAT, which schools are exempt from.
  • Lack of funding affects the country’s ability to train the future workforce.

Schools

  • Even with increased money promised for each pupil in the 2022 Autumn Statement, funding remains below 2010 levels.
  • A pupil who started school in 2010, will have lost out on £5,384 of funding as a result of government cuts and inflation.
  • Between 2010/11 and 2022/23, per pupil spending fell from £7,274 to £6,982 - a drop of 4%.

How you can get involved:

This funding crisis means fewer resources going into the education system, low pay, staff leaving jobs, redundancies and unsafe buildings. We're asking you to spare a moment to email your local MP to highlight these issues and bring them to the top of the Government's agenda.

Take action today to encourage the Government to take responsibility and provide more funding for colleges and schools.
