Hundreds of healthcare support workers in Basildon, Southend and Broomfield hospitals are routinely undervalued and underpaid for the job they do. They're on the NHS band 2 pay rate, but carry out clinical tasks that should be paid at band 3, like heart rate monitoring, bloods, urine analysis and more.
The trust has moved some staff on to the correct pay band, but they are still being denied years of backpay for the time they were underpaid.
Meanwhile, staff working on bank shifts are still being paid at the lower rate while carrying out these kinds of clinical tasks.
I think healthcare support workers in Basildon, Southend and Broomfield hospitals should be paid fairly for the work they do. I call on the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust to Pay Fair for Patient Care.
