Email your councillor for better pay

Local government staff provide a range of vital services, keeping our communities safe, clean and accessible, yet there is often little or no recognition for the hard work that goes on. More staff are experiencing cuts to budgets and services, placing the stress on their shoulders yet the value of their pay has plummeted by 25% since 2010.

It’s time to stand together for better pay for council and school staff. With the cost of living remaining high, more is needed in pay packets to account for increases in the cost of food, housing and heating.

UNISON is calling for a pay increase of £3,000 or 10%, whichever is the greater, depending on your individual pay. We feel that this would be a decent increase that would help keep local government workers in their roles and recoup the loss of value in their pay after years of erosion.

Local councillors can voice their support for this pay rise, raising the issue directly with local government employers and demanding that they provide the pay rise school and council workers so desperately need.

Please email your councillor and convince them to use their influence to support hard-working staff, delivering important local services.
