The University of Nottingham is planning devastating job cuts among support staff that will undermine the quality of education, staff well-being, and the student experience. These cuts, Phase 1 of a so-called ‘Future Nottingham’ plan, are being pushed through over summer 2025 with little evidence that they will solve the University’s financial challenges. 258 full time equivalent posts among support staff will go and 98 current vacancies will not be filled, making 356 deleted posts in total.
Following Phase 1, academic staff and courses will then be targeted in Phase 2, from September 2025. While we recognise the financial pressures on the sector, we believe the University of Nottingham can achieve the cost savings it needs to make through non-pay savings rather than cutting jobs, through cutting its large estate and unnecessary expenditure. It is unjustifiable to target support staff while maintaining costly properties and while the senior executive pay bill continues to rise.
We need your support to stop these job cuts!
