The University of Hertfordshire has increased parking charges by 50%, hitting staff and students who are already struggling to get by.

On 1 August, charges increased from £300 to £450 for a yearly permit. And then they’re set to go up another 5% every year until 2030.

Increases are particularly hard to bear for cleaners, receptionists and other low-paid staff who are expected to be on campus every day. They also hit staff and students or those with children.

And this attack on staff and students comes as the university sits on reserves of more than £90 million.
