UNISON members across the UK are coming together to demand changes to the Social Care Visa. The current system leaves migrant workers open to exploitation. To help end this exploitation UNISON members are demanding:
- That visas are no longer to be held by their employer and should instead be held by the government. Allowing migrant workers, the freedom to work for any employer in the social care sector.
- A reversal of the proposed increase of the qualifying period for Indefinite Leave to Remain for those already in the country.
- A fair pay agreement for care workers ensuring that care work is a well paid and respected profession.
UNISON members are organising meetings with MPs across the North West so they can share their stories and present their demands for changes to the visa system. We need to make sure MPs are aware of these issues and meet with UNISON members.
Email your local MP and ask them to meet with UNISON members!
