The Department for Education’s recently drafted guidance on supporting pupils with medical conditions in schools is missing some vital clarifications and risks giving the impression that schools are expected to deliver healthcare.
This creates confusion about who is responsible for ensuring care is delivered safely and appropriately, putting pupils at risk.
School support staff have enough of a workload, without delivering heathcare too. We need to make sure that the final guidance clearly sets out the role of the NHS, and who is responsible for delivering healthcare in schools.
