Thousands of school support staff across Wales are trapped in in-work poverty.
They are trusted with children’s welfare and learning, yet many need second jobs or benefits just to get by.
Wages are already low. Term-time only pay makes things worse, basing their pay on the 39 weeks they are in school, while teachers and head teachers are paid for the full year. Most school support staff are women, making this an issue of pay and gender equality.
We call on the Welsh government to urgently end the injustice of term-time only pay and lift school support staff and their families out of poverty.
The best way to do this is through a School Support Staff Negotiating Body for Wales, so the whole education workforce is treated and rewarded fairly.
Anyone can sign. You do not need to work in a school or be a UNISON member. Add your name to support fair pay for school support staff.
