Workers at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are being paid less on the bank.
UNISON members at LUHFT have been organising for fair pay on the bank. Bank workers have been underpaid for years, as unlike at neighbouring Trusts across the region, their annual leave does not reflect normal renumeration. Both substantive staff who work bank on top of their hours, and those who work purely on bank, have not been paid an enhancement on the bank work they carry out during unsocial hours. This is years of underpayment for many workers.
By organising through UNISON and handing in a powerful collective grievance, workers have been given a voice on the issue, however the Trust are continuing to find ways to underpay them. The Trust agreed they were in the wrong for some workers, but they created some criteria to define what constitutes a 'regular' worker. If someone doesn't meet that strict criteria, they are deemed as not eligible for their annual leave to reflect what they work. They have also taken a different approach to that of overpayments at the Trust, and decided to only pay back 2 years backpay, regardless of how long someone has been underpaid. Not only this, but the Trust is now looking to implement this criteria going forward, meaning workers will continue to be underpaid for the work they do.
Whether you're a bank worker, a colleague or a member of the public, take a stand with these workers and demand that the Trust address their demands and pay them fairly. Take 2 minutes to write an email to the Board.
