Dear Chancellor Rishi Sunak,
Public services are teetering on the brink. The global pandemic and 10 years of spending cuts have left our public services in crisis. Underpaid and undervalued staff are throwing in the towel. Vital services need urgent attention.
Investment in the NHS has halved since 2010. Public sector pay has fallen by a quarter since 2009. 250,000 jobs in councils and schools have gone. And there has been public outrage at dodgy covid contracts. We are a nation proud of our public services and people are angry about the way they have been treated.
But you have the power to change this.
We, the public service workers and the people that support them, are asking you to rebuild our public services. In your budget on 27 October will you commit to provide the long-term investment our public services so urgently need?
